Located right on the territory of the township of Daegwallyeong-myeon, in Pyeongchang County, Alpensia ski resort is a renowned resort where tourist can enjoy shopping and dining experiences as well as cultural and artistic events.

The resort was built thinking about hosting the Winter Olympics. The facilities were built on farmlands and potato fields and completed in 2011. Currently, the village has three major accommodation providers – Intercontinental Hotel, Holiday Inn Hotel, and Holiday Inn Suites, which are great options for a romantic vacation or a family group outing.

This select resort offers slopes specialized for professional snowboarders and families interested in skiing. There are slope for beginners and intermediate-level skiers. There’s no need to be a skilled skier to join the fun.

When the ski and snowboarding season starts, all runs are serviced by chairlifts named: Alpha (beginner), Bravo (beginner/intermediate), Charlie, Delta, Echo and Foxtrot catering for intermediate ability. There’s even the option to enjoy some night skiing.

Sport venues are not the only thing available in the area, since the resort is equipped with great places for recreational activities, wonderful views, magnificent meals and get a chance to enjoy a sense of freedom and your secret passions.

There’s the great monorail that operates from the ground level to the top of Ski jump Tower. The fare includes the use of elevator and binoculars. The Ski Jump has a great restaurant and an observatory where visitors can take in the breathtaking view of the splendid Daegwallyeong. Also, the bottom of the slope gets turned into a wild flower garden of 100,000㎡ during the off-season, which makes it a multi-functional ski facility all year round.

The Heart Of The Winter Olympics

Alpensia is getting ready to host the 2018 Winter Olympics. The facilities will be the the location of the ski jumping events and other outdoor sports of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. This will be the second time that the location was chosen for such a prestigious competition, since back in 2013 it was one of the venues for the Special Olympics World Winter Games.

This destination will also be the location of an Olympic Village; meanwhile the nearby Yongpyong Ski Resort will be the venue for alpine skiing technical events (slalom and giant slalom). The speed events of downhill, super-G, and combined will be hosted at Jeongseon Alpine Centre, currently under development. The select ski resort will also a new, purpose-built concert hall.

Getting To The Alpensia Ski Resort

The ski resort is about 2.5 hours from Seoul or Incheon Airport by car, mainly all motorways. There are also purple ski shuttle buses available to transport to the resort 3 or 4 times a day. It’s also a 5–10-minute car ride to the Yongpyong Ski Resort which is the other Winter Olympic venue.
